Several months ago I was wearily wanting my kids to just go to bed. I'd spent all day with them, talking etc., reading to them, listening to the chirping of their pretending in the other room, and frankly wanting some selfish quiet time. I don't remember when exactly I remembered the spray bottle of scent from Bath and Body, but the word SLEEP jumped out at me. They carry a line of aromatherapy products and I have had this bottle called sleep for years! It came to me that I could tell the kids it was sleeping potion and spray them right before bed.
The kids were giddy! They got sprayed and pretended to be immediately effected and then they went off to bed with a smiles on their faces. It was a welcome change.
That was several months ago, and somewhere along the line we stopped doing this. We are back to kids dragging their feet when told to scoot off to bed. This drives a parent nuts. It isn't news it drives us bats. The words, "I just need a few minutes to call my own!", want to escape my mouth. So......where did I put the sleeping potion??!!! Today I am going to find that stuff and reinstate sleeping potion time again. I made a little mental note too that they would do better if I tucked them in bed at night as they love that and THEN spray them with sleeping potion. Their rooms will smell better too. Nervous giggle.
Bath and Body or your local lavender farmer will supply all your needs. Sleep well!

Day Off
Almost every day there is something I have to go do and today I woke up and realized there was nothing I *had* to do today. Phew. Now I don't want to do anything at all. I am going to try to be satisfied with the little amount which does get accomplished and then go back to bed again this evening. We have to actually rest sometime right? I need more days and maybe weeks like this. My dear husband is stressed to the max with work and I pointed out to him that if he slept a bunch on the weekend it might actually be a good idea for his sanity and health. We have stuff to do this weekend in the line of recitals and competitions etc but hey, a nap here and there won't kill us. Moral of the story? Don't feel guilty if you fall asleep on the couch every so often. Your body might be telling you something.

Still sleeping
I've decided to try a vitamin pill to see if I just need a boost in vim and vigor. In between succumbing to the bed magnet, I did manage to whack away some more grass in the field, and find flowers to use at the wedding. We are keeping that very simple. In fact everything is pretty simple. Now I just need to remember to take very good care of said flowers til at least July 6th. I received instructions and a pep talk from the garden center and hopefully I don't sleep away the time I should be fertilizing and watering.
Second son planted tomatoes and peppers and went with me to get some soaker hose in hopes of a good year. He and first son are very enthused to help now that they have been released from SAT preparation bondage. I am amazed at the willingness to go whack trees and weeds and shrubs out of the woods and walkways. Their enthusiasm might catch on with me again as I was doing those things before hauling to Massachusetts and back.
My bed. I love my bed. It is the best place ever. Perhaps I can add reading books to the time spent there but I just fall asleep. It is a very strange thing. My hubby is dumbfounded by all this sleeping and lounging.

Sleep
I have been making an attempt to catch up on some sleep. Today my pedometer reported 181 steps at 10:30. That was the total from getting up to make sure short people were occupied and then returned to bed. There must have been glue in that bed. There are tasks screaming at me to get done and yet I didn't give a hoot this morning. For that matter, I didn't give a hoot the morning before. Hmmm.....I wonder how late I can sleep in tomorrow?
Whining some more here......I think sleep deprivation and stress have done a number on my tummy too. Tomorrow we are having some nice chicken and noodle soup. I will have to parcel some off for later. If there isn't time to rest, I am going to ignore the stress and rest okay?
And I am going to be in deep trouble when the short people get a little older and learn to love their bed too. Twenty-two years of sleep deprivation........I am allowing myself some freedom to be a sloth this week. Perhaps next week I will feel perkier. Goodnight.

Just goes to show
My dear wittle daughter was put to bed early last night and no one checked to see if she had eaten anything. I was too dense at midnight to two something to consider that she might be hungry. After kicking me for several hours, Charley took the poor orphan back to bed. Around four thirty Stefan appeared soaked to the gills and freezing. After a bath, warm jammies and a clean bed, and a banana, he went back to bed. Charley thought it was six something at that point. Making it through a sleep deprived day is always interesting. It took me till noon to figure out that a lack of sleep might be wearing on me. Where is the computer program and alert system????? We are supposed to go out for dinner this evening so will have to do everything possible to stuff the children up with lots of yummy food, get a nap and perhaps find the duct tape for my mouth for the trip to our little outing. Yikes. Can I farm some of this out???? Back to the chillins.
